The sooner you accept yourself as you are, the sooner you can make changes. It seems counter-intuitive, accepting yourself to change yourself. But when you meet yourself at a place of understanding, calmness and acceptance for who you are and where you are at, you can then begin to make genuine, lasting changes towards who you truly can be.
I grew up in this idyllic situation and honestly was given everything on the outside. I knew how privileged I was and for most of my adult life I felt so guilty for having so much in comparison to others. Because of that I often felt like ‘who was I to have any issues and feel anything but privileged and happy?’
It took me a long time to accept that I was allowed to not feel that; that it was okay to not feel okay; that there was more to me than just what appeared on the outside. That I was actually in pain on the inside and harming myself in many ways as a result. This then allowed me to really begin my healing journey.
What do you need to accept about yourself today?
