Letting go

Having boundaries in business
June 23, 2021It’s the small things that lead to the biggest overall changes
I tried for so long to change the things I didn’t like about myself and my life with a drastic ‘all or nothing’ approach. I found it impossible to make small changes or find any kind of maintainable balance in the different areas of my life.
I’d be the last one standing at a night out, drinking lots – often encouraging more and not wanting the night to end. Or I would be tee-total and being super strict on the latest diet I decided to embrace whether it was juicing, paleo or macrobiotic.
While working as a freelancer, I’d do long hours packing in as many different jobs as possible with no breaks, then I would completely neglect work, even having to call in sick on occasion and just rest and not want to do anything, see or even speak to anyone for a few days.
When it came to my love life, I’d go through periods of trying to find a relationship by spending hours on dating apps and going on as many dates as possible, then I’d delete all my apps and not want to see another guy for months.
I was doing what I thought I ‘should’ be doing. Not paying attention to what my needs were or what might work for ME.
It’s only when I stopped doing this and started to make just one tiny change which felt good to me, that I would continue consistently for a period of time, gradually adding to it once that became a habit, that I really noticed a difference in my life. Things I wanted to make happen actually started to happen, and change became something I was capable of!
I find that if we sometimes feel we aren’t seeing results in a few days or weeks that nothing is happening and there’s no point in continuing. I especially think this is the case in our fast-paced world of instant gratification. Learning to be patient and make small changes is so simple, yet so powerful and one we all could do with re-learning. Particularly as a sensitive being, having too much going on can be overwhelming.
