One of the biggest lessons for me was learning to trust myself in my business. As well as doing courses on online business, I had worked with many small businesses and entrepreneurs and seen how they all did it, so initially, I thought that’s how it had to be done.
When you are starting out it’s perfect to follow others and do it as others do so that you learn and importantly just begin, but over time, and particularly for entrepreneurs, it’s important to find your way and learn to trust yourself and what works for you. After all, for many, one of the main reasons to begin working for yourself is to have the balance you would like. To get to do more of the things you want to do. To work on the things you want to.
It is a process of un-learning in some ways, as we are taught that business needs to be done a certain way, generally adopting a very masculine approach. Absolutely, there is also a need to make money and support yourself, so it can be a fine balance getting that right. Learning to trust yourself and what works for you and your business and life can be a big step for many, and one that evolves over time. Yes, there can be support in having consistency or a plan to work with and from, but where does it come from? Does it come from a place of thinking things have to be done a certain way, or is it fully aligned with you?
What was life-changing for me was beginning to know and trust my intuition in my business and letting it guide me. This was something I came to realise by myself, not from any courses or formal learning I’d undertaken.
As I learned how powerful my intuition is and started to listen to it and check in with it, asking it questions whenever I needed the answer to a decision, I realised the power we all hold inside ourselves. What makes the difference, I feel, is trusting it and following its guidance, not ignoring it or only half-heartedly following what it says.
My intuition has always been right. It is often not the fastest answer I want, but as I look back and connect the dots, I can clearly see how it has always supported me and led me on my perfect path.
At one point, I was pushing to try and make something happen in my corporate wellness business: I had a programme I had sold before and thought I could go down that path and help others there. This was an area I used to be passionate about but wasn’t feeling connected to anymore – partly as I no longer worked in that environment and also because I didn’t want to go into offices. The only glimmer I had from my intuition was that I needed to work with people in business, but aside from that, it was telling me to wait and be still. Something was coming and bubbling away inside of me. I could literally feel and see it cocooning inside when I did visualisation journeys.
I was working part-time and had a roof over my head, yet I still insisted on trying to make something happen as I thought I should be making more money and sharing this programme. I spent money on it and shared it a few times, but it just wasn’t landing or feeling good in my body. There was so much resistance. It was completely wrong for me, and it actually emerged a few months later that it was no longer an area for me to be focusing on.
In fact, in less than an hour, one afternoon in January 2020, I got the whole download for the Empathpreneurs, working with empath entrepreneurs to support them in the different areas of an online business, which can align to their chakras. And even better, it combined all of my different experiences from my wellness business and the part-time work I had been doing for years.
It was quite a magical moment for me.
It was still working with people in business as I had felt a few months back, but it was for where I was at – with the people I mainly spoke to and worked with. I was quite blown away. I was also leaving my home in London in February 2020 to go back home to Kenya for a bit. Then Covid-19 hit and the world changed, and I couldn’t get back to London, so being able to work with empaths in and on their online businesses was perfect for me.
That experience was quite profound and really affirmed the power of trusting your intuition for me, so I have sworn to completely trust every bit of guidance I am given.
