Holding the vision
October 26, 2021Self-compassion
November 2, 2021Being an empathpreneur can certainly come with its challenges when it comes to your energy levels. This is an area that has felt all over the place, and evolved for me, on my entrepreneurial journey.
It is absolutely linked to basic self-care such as what I eat and drink, the amount of movement I do, time in nature, how much I sleep, and how much time I spend on my laptop or other screens.
But actually, the biggest thing that has emerged is that the more aligned I become with my purpose, the more grounded and embodied I feel, and the more energy I have to show up in all areas of my life.
Purpose is a big area, and I do feel that we can have a few purposes in life. For example, I know that expressing myself through art is one of mine: my whole world literally changes and I connect to the flow of the Universe when I am in that space of creation.
I feel that joy and connecting to others on a truly deep, heartfelt level is a part of our purpose as humans and doing this is completely energising and soul-filling. I know a part of my purpose is to give back and help in a few key ways during my time on Earth – for me in particular, helping the environment, and orphans and unwanted children. When I am able to contribute financially to these causes I believe in, or give my time and love, I know how overflowing with energy and love I feel.
But I want to share more here about purpose when it comes to your work and how you are being called to serve through your business, as an empathpreneur.
For me, this has been a gradual journey, and one I know that is still evolving as I find myself refining and homing in on what I am being called to do and how I am being called to show up.
Two factors that have been integral here are trust and patience. From day one I wanted to have everything sorted out straight away, to be serving everyone I was here to work with, and to have it all figured out. But allowing your unique journey to unfold is such a huge part of the process. Trialling the things that don’t work and those that do, and learning from it all, leads to you ultimately growing and evolving and truly connecting with your highest purpose.
I have gone through many different areas of focus in my own business. I began with wellbeing in the workplace, then moved to focus entirely on self-care – which narrowed down into seasonal and cyclical self-care. Then my focus was the spiritual side of our lives and this led into embodiment and connecting with our beings. All while I was working part-time as a virtual assistant (VA) and in PR, marketing and business support.
As you can see it hasn’t been a straight line. It has been messy, un-grounded and just bloody hard at times. Especially in the early days as I was finding my way and trying out things. There were times when I wanted to quit as I wasn’t attracting clients or making any money from my business. I felt like a busy unemployed person (as one of my dear friends who was also self-employed so eloquently described), and I was exhausted a lot of the time.
But each part of my entrepreneurial journey so far has been important for me in some way, even if not what I initially expected, and I know will continue to be. Each part has supported me in some way that has been for my growth and led me closer to my purpose. As I’ve experimented, trialled and refined, I’ve noticed my energy levels changing. I learned how tired I would feel holding space for things that didn’t fill me up: my energy felt depleted when I started something, such as an offering, that wasn’t really for me, but was instead something I thought I should be doing; and I would need even more decompression time after work that I found uninspiring or not in my zone of genius.
As I have moved closer and closer to my purpose my work is more inspiring, fulfilling, stimulating and challenging – all at the same time – and makes me feel like I am making a difference. As I become more aligned with my purpose, I feel it deep within my being and I connect with that magical flow state filled with boundless energy.
- How connected to your purpose do you feel right now, and how does this affect your energy levels and how you are able to show up?
- Are there any areas in your business that are draining you as they aren’t in alignment with your purpose? What can you do to change this?
