The thing I’ve found the most challenging with the creative process is leaning into the periods of rest. The seeming nothingness, when so much is happening beneath the surface, but outwardly it looks like nothing. An inner winter if you will, a void or space in between. Being in these times isn’t ‘productive’ or something we’ve been taught to respect in any way.

It’s taken me years of truly surrendering to them, each time a little more, to recognise their gifts. Their sheer potency blows me away. They invite me into deeper union with myself, my gifts and who I truly am. I emerge more aligned with my creative power, the work and projects I am here to birth, the leader I am here to be.

Then when the journey of creation spirals back around to the seasons of visioning, inspired action or releasing/letting go, they feel so much more powerful and aligned. I can easily say no to what’s not for me. There’s a depth to what I’m bringing through that feels more true to my heart. Action flows like sheer pleasure.

I’ve seen this not just in my own experience, but in the leaders and creatives I mentor. We have to honour ALL the seasons of creating – their gifts, their challenges and what they each invite us into. Whether it’s in how you live, lead, and navigate the unknown. Whether you’re building a vision, guiding others, or bringing something new into the world. The creative process asks us to trust, surrender, and listen deeply.
