This Saturday, February 22nd, marks the three-year anniversary of my oracle deck, Embodied Wisdom. Over the years, many have asked me how it came to life, so I wanted to take you behind the scenes of its creation—a process that was deeply personal, unexpected, and transformational.

I knew I wanted to create an oracle deck from the moment I held my first one—Kyle Gray’s Keepers of the Light (which I actually won in an Instagram competition!). I had no idea what mine would be about, how many cards there would be, or even how to begin. I just knew. In 2017, I put it on my vision board and promptly forgot about it.

Fast forward to 2020. I had just left London, returning to Kenya to recover from the end of a long-term relationship. Then, as we all know, the world changed, and I found myself unexpectedly staying there much longer than planned. Around the same time, a dear friend invited me to join an online practitioner training in Colour Mirrors, a system that uses bottles of coloured oils and essences to reveal deeper insights. Unable to receive the physical bottles due to shipping limitations, my friend suggested I paint my responses to them instead.

That simple act changed everything.

I had done an art degree 15 years earlier in London, but the experience had stifled my creativity. I stopped painting entirely. It wasn’t until 2019 that I tentatively picked up a brush again. But this… this was different.

As I painted, something unlocked. Colours poured onto the page, and with them, emotions I hadn’t fully processed—grief, healing, and deep personal transformation. Each painting became a conversation with a different part of myself. I stuck them on my wall, and every morning, I would intuitively choose one, allowing it to guide my day through its colours and shapes.

I created over 30 paintings, at first thinking they might become greeting cards. But they were for me, not for anyone else. At a time when I was grieving the life I left behind in London, these paintings became a lifeline. They held space for me.Then, the paintings started reflecting more than just the Colour Mirrors work. They captured emotions I was processing, memories from my childhood in Kenya, the deep connection I had always felt with the unseen, and the inspiration I found in the forest surrounding my parents’ home. When the collection grew past 50, I knew. This was my oracle deck.

Then, in August 2021, on a short trip to the Kenyan coast, the words finally flowed. They wove together chakra wisdom, spiritual colour psychology, and the creative process in a way I hadn’t planned but felt completely aligned.

The deck was originally set to launch in November 2021, but design delays pushed it back. I took it as a sign. I was still nervous about sharing my art—it had been such a personal journey of healing. But then I felt into the new release date: 22.2.2022. It was perfect.

When I held the test deck for the first time, it felt like a dream come true. It was no longer just mine, it was ready to be in the world.
