How I work in my business
October 2, 2022How different colours can support your wellbeing
August 28, 2023Productivity is a natural goal. Often, however, we tend to find ourselves so caught up in work that we forget to take care of ourselves. In the end, this tendency to overwork ourselves to the point of stress can even lead to a decrease in productivity, and it becomes especially difficult to gain satisfaction from the work that we do.
This is common among entrepreneurs who struggle daily to maintain the relevance of their businesses. After weeks of long and tireless shifts, entrepreneurs tend to get burned out and may start to question their future at the company. This is normal!
Thankfully, there are a few easy ways that entrepreneurs can take care of themselves so that they come to work rejuvenated each day. Here are some ideas below.
Eat healthy meals
Eating healthy meals every day is a must for an effective wellness routine. However, this isn’t always easy. Many may struggle to find the time to cook their meals when already swamped with work. That is why delivery or take-out is a popular option for busy individuals.
Avoid cheap and convenient fast-food restaurants and try ordering from the farmers’ market and healthy food stalls instead. There are even apps like WhatsGood in the United States or MiLarder in the UK that allow consumers to source local food from the nearest farmers’ market directly. This helps busy entrepreneurs eat better while giving time back.
Practice physical wellness
Physical fitness is key to maintaining one’s cardiovascular health and brain function. Exercise has even been proven to help psychologically because the increase in endorphins can lift one’s mood. It may be difficult for an entrepreneur to find the time to hit the gym, but it’s still possible to insert fitness into one’s daily routine.
Consider biking or walking as a low-impact but high-reward exercise. Simply walking 10,000 steps a day can help improve your brain’s performance by enhancing its ability to reorganise, repair, and adapt to new situations. It’s highly doable as well. You can opt to climb the stairs instead of taking an elevator to work or simply go for a midday walk during slow hours to help spark creative thinking and fresh ideas.
Prioritise sleep
Many individuals tend to sacrifice their sleep to get more work done. However, this is counterproductive as the lack of sleep can impact cognitive performance.
Many more businesses are starting to promote napping in the workplace during or after working hours. This proactive self-care approach prioritises wellness and allows an entrepreneur to get back to work fresher, alert, and appreciative of their workplace environment.
Get checked up
Many workers avoid getting checked up by the doctor because costs aside, the additional burden of travel and waiting time is an expense that many cannot spare. However, remote healthcare visits are available today, thanks to the digital age. This means that sick entrepreneurs can quickly get themselves checked while at home or in the workplace to avoid any worsening symptoms. This will allow them to recover much faster as well.
Consider mindfulness
Mindfulness can be as easy as practising mindful breathing for five minutes daily. This can be done anytime for the busy entrepreneur and effectively lowers blood pressure to decrease anxiety levels. It’s a simple way to take a breather from the day’s activities while taking care of any psychosomatic symptoms.
Proactively taking care of your physical and mental health is only the start to loving what you do every day. There is no one-size-fits-all guide to taking care of yourself, but by listening to your body and having the space to breathe, you can make wellness your own every day.
