Knowing it is done: The creative power that changes everything

When I was a child, I had an unshakable knowing. If I wanted to win a school drawing competition, be cast in a certain role in a play, or be paired with my best friend in a group project I simply chose it. And it happened.

I didn’t question it. I didn’t overthink it. I just knew.

It was as if I could step into a reality where the outcome was already done. Some might call it manifesting. But to me, it was just truth. It was my creative power in action.

Then life happened. My mother’s passing shattered that knowing. The world no longer felt magical. I stopped believing in miracles. I lost touch with the creative force that once made things feel effortless. Instead, I became cautious, hesitant. I wanted to believe, but doubt crept in. What if life wasn’t on my side? What if magic wasn’t real after all?

And yet, even in the midst of loss, there were moments when my power resurfaced – when I stepped into something greater than myself and felt that knowing again.

Like the time I was in my first year of secondary school, facing my final art exam. Up until that point, my drawings were flat, lifeless, lacking depth. But that day, something in me decided: I can do this. I picked up my watercolour pencils, placed a shiny red apple in front of me, and chose to see it differently. And just like that, something clicked. My hand moved with certainty. Depth, colour, shading, it all came through me as if I had unlocked a new level of creative mastery. From that moment on, I could draw still life effortlessly.

Or the time I was thrown into a rounders tournament – a game I had struggled with all season. I was a reserve, unlikely to play. But when I was suddenly called up for the first game, something in me shifted. I chose to believe I could do it. In a single moment, I stepped into the version of myself who could hit the ball, score rounders, and lead my team to victory. And I did – again and again – until I was named batter of the tournament.

These moments (which feel like timeline shifts or accessing a universal current or flow) were more than chance. They were proof of what happens when we choose and know it is done.

And yet, I noticed something: it was easier to access this power in certain areas of my life, and harder in others. When it came to art, sport, or childhood desires, the energy moved quickly. But when I had deep emotional attachments like wanting a launch to go a certain way, calling in a particular client, or reaching a financial goal – doubt and conditioning made it harder to step into that knowing.
