Fear of being seen

March 23, 2022Boundaries being crossed can come up in so many areas. At work, in relationships, with friends and family…
Ultimately, it’s up to us to create boundaries with others. I know how easy it is to say ‘yes’ to too many things or to want to people-please and end up doing things I wish I wasn’t. Or there’s the guilt that can come up, and who wants to feel that.
The only thing I can say is I am still ‘working’ on this one. It takes constant coming back to myself, checking in and asking what I really want, what I really have time for. What my priorities are – am I saying ‘yes’ to someone else and ‘no’ to myself?
I completely understand it’s harder if you are a parent for example, but what I will say is, your children will never learn your boundaries nor how to assert their own if you don’t model it for them now.
I also found that as I began to assert more boundaries of my own, people gradually stopped asking for so much of me and all the fretting going on in my head about having to say ‘no’ was unnecessary.
It may be hard at first but taking that first little step is all you need to do.
Are there any areas in your life where you may not have clear boundaries? Where perhaps you give too much of yourself? Where you are always available? Where you just can’t say no? How can you begin to put some boundaries in place?
This blog post is a snippet from my book, Embodied.
